The Helmholtz Moscow Research Institute of Eye Diseases – the oldest ophthalmologic research center in Russia which has determined the foundation and further development of ophthalmology in Russia.

The Institute is the sole diversified scientific ophthalmologic center in the Russian Federation. It carries out research studies in key problems of ophthalmology, whose successful solution is indis-pensable for the prevention of blindness and weak eyesight: eye injury, glaucoma, myopia, pathology of retina and optic nerve, infectious and allergic diseases, eye diseases in children. The Institute takes the leading position in many of these research studies both in Russia and abroad.

As an ophthalmology research institute, The Helmholtz Moscow Research Institute of Eye Diseases takes the first place in the system of Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation It coordinates scientific research studies of the leading ophthalmologic chairs of Medical Institutes and Universities of the Russian Federation.

The Institute’s substantive school of ophthalmology, that has been development for almost 110 years Is the leading school in Russia and enjoys well-deserved recognition all over the world. The results of research studies are annually reported on international congresses. The international recognition of the Institute is confirmed by diplomas and medals obtained for development of new technologies.

The Institute offers consultations and medical assistance to patients. The Institute’s Clinic has a hospital for 300 beds. Every year 250 thousand patients visit the Institute seeking medical assistance, and the Institute’s hospital accepts up to 8 thousand patients, coming from all regions of Russia.
